What are Lift threads?
Lift threads refer to a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure aimed at lifting and tightening sagging skin on the face, neck, or other parts of the body without the need for traditional surgical facelifts. This procedure involves the insertion of specialised threads under the skin. These threads are made from biodegradable materials that are commonly used in medical sutures.
When the threads are inserted under the skin, they act to physically lift the sagging skin and tissue. Over time, these threads stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen around the threads. Collagen is a protein that helps maintain skin structure and elasticity, leading to a more youthful and revitalised appearance.
One of the most common types of lift threads are PDO (polydioxanone) threads.
What is a PDO thread lift?
A PDO thread lift is a cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging skin tissues by inducing collagen production. It involves the insertion of fine, absorbable polydioxanone (PDO) threads into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using thin needles. PDO threads are biocompatible and are the same material used in medical sutures, which dissolve naturally in the body over time.
The PDO thread lift procedure targets various parts of the face and body, including the cheeks, jawline, neck, and eyebrows, providing a more youthful and lifted appearance. It’s particularly favoured for its minimally invasive nature, offering a less intensive alternative to traditional surgical lifts with a considerably shorter recovery period.
Upon insertion, the threads create a lifting effect immediately. Over the following months, they also stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen around the threads. This process, known as neocollagenesis, enhances the skin’s volume, elasticity, and texture, contributing to a more youthful look. The threads themselves dissolve after about 6 months, but the rejuvenating effects can last much longer, typically up to 2 years, depending on the individual’s skin condition and lifestyle.
The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia, reducing downtime and making it a convenient option for people seeking facial rejuvenation without the risks and recovery time associated with surgery. However, like any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations and to choose an experienced practitioner to minimise risks and achieve the best possible results.
